Ensuring Family Nutrition by Practicing Food Safety

Hello dear mothers! I know like me, your family is nutrition is one of our top priorities. Did you know that we can ensure family nutirion by practicing food safety? Here's a good article to read.

From the Press Release Kit:

The strong foundations of developing healthy choices begin at home. This is why it is important for parents to set a good standard in healthy eating, food preparation and storage that the little ones can pick-up on.

One of the most basic things that kids can learn from their parents are their habits when shopping for day-to-day necessities, and their practice when cooking and storing food in the house.

By observing proper purchasing, handling, cooking and storing, parents ensure that the family consumes safe and healthy food, and at the same time, they also teach their kids how to practice food safety that they’ll carry and pass on in the future.

So here are 7 food safety tips for every household:

1. Buy food from trusted establishments
Buying food from established and reliable retail establishments guarantees that products and other items sold there have gone through stringent quality control. This ensures sanitation and safety for the whole family.

2. Meat comes after non-perishables
When doing grocery shopping, purchase refrigerated or frozen meat and poultry after selecting your non-perishables. It’s also important to make sure that chilled and frozen goods are stored below the load line of the freezing unit, and not at room temperature.

3. Do not buy items past “sell by” “use by” and expiry date
Safety and quality may be compromised if food has expired, so be sure to always check the expiry date shown on packaging before putting something in the shopping cart. It is also important to know what these marks mean.
Sell-by date is a guide for stores to know how long they can display a particular product, and one should buy the product before the sell-by date. But you can still store it at home for some time beyond that date, as long as you follow safe storage procedures
Whereas, the “use-by” and “best before” dates tell how long the product is likely to remain at its absolute best quality when unopened. But as long as you’ve been storing the unopened item properly, you can generally consume it beyond this date, just make sure to check for off-odor, flavor and appearance.

4. Practice proper hand-washing
Several studies have shown that the kitchen in every home contains the most bacteria, which is alarming considering that this is where all the food is prepared and stored. With hands being one of the main ways to spread germs, it’s important to always wash hands thoroughly before cooking and after touching raw food.

5. Cook food thoroughly at the right temperature
Cooking food thoroughly will ensure that any harmful bacteria present in it will be killed. Some of the most common food that should be cooked well are pork, sausages and poultry. As for poultry, it doesn’t even need to be washed beforehard as long as it is cooked properly.
If cooked food will not be consumed immediately, it has to be left to cool at room temperature for at least an hour and a half before being stored in the refrigerator. Putitng hot food in the refrigerator means uneven cooling that can cause food poisoning.

6. Properly store and consume milk
Milk is one of the household staples that require proper storing and consumption. Choose ready-to-drink milk that goes through UHT treatment so that they can be stored in room temperature without the need for refrigeration until the package is opened such as Selecta Milk products in Tetra Pak cartons.

Selecta’s portfolio of 1 litre packs includes Selecta Fortified Milk, Selecta Full Cream Milk, Selecta Fortified Low Fat Milk and Selecta Moo Milk Chocolate allowing options for the entire family. These also come with resealable caps for easy opening, pouring and storing back in the fridge.
Selecta Milk in Tetra Pak cartons stays safe and nutritious even at room temperature as long as the carton remains unopened. However, make sure to refrigerate upon opening.

7. Keep foods covered and sealed
Store refrigerated foods in covered containers or sealed storage bags, especially meat. Make sure they keep from touching each other and that it doesn’t drip on to other items. Refrigerated leftovers should always be checked daily for spoilage.
These are just some of the most basic food safety tips that should be practiced in every household. Kids at home will eventually pick-up on the pattern if observed regularly at home and will know what are safe and healthy for them.

A Strong Kid, Inside and Outside

My son is one the best gifts I have ever received.

When we learned that I was pregnant, I had mixed feelings.

I was overwhelmed with happiness, and at the same time I was afraid because I don't know what to expect. But when I gave birth and saw his face, all the bad feelings disappeared - because right in my arms was the most beautiful baby I have ever seen.

I fell in love with him instantly. I promised to love him and give him only the best.

But my son grows fast and I am afraid that he might outgrow us soon especially that I am a working mom. At one point, I was so frustrated and I told myself I'll quit my job. Thank God my husband was very supportive, he understood how I felt and we agreed that even if we are working, our son will be our priority.

We support all his interests and make sure we are there in every milestone he will achieve. When he joined a singing contest to represent his school, Daddy and I were there.

We gave him our full support when he joined his first spelling bee contest at 5 years old.

We also make sure that we are always there on every school activity he will have.

During weekends, we spend quality time with him.

We let him help me us with simple house chores, like organizing his toys.

We encourage him to try new things.

We let him play and express himself.

When it comes to studying, I make sure I am the one who teaches him. On weekdays, every night I allot time for our study time.

And with his every achievement, big or small, we are so proud of him.

I think that's how we parents are. We want nothing but the best for them. We are their #1 supporter and fan.

But we should not stop there. We should also make sure that our kids will grow strong, healthy and smart. Even if I am a working mom, I personally cook for my son. I make sure that he eats right and also give him milk that help him with digestion. This is because better digestion is important in breaking down food into nutrients that will be used by the body for energy, growth and cell repair.

A pro-digestion milk formula like Friso Four will help our kid's developing and delicate digestive system. Friso Four uses LockNutri Technology™, which preserves the milk nutrient’s natural structure. Natural nutrients like milk protein can be damaged during milk production due to overheating.

Since the nutrients in Friso Four milk are easier to digest, it helps in building a strong digestive system and immunity, and getting the required energy for our kid's development. Remember mommies, a child stronger in the inside is tougher so we can go out, experience and do more together.

Aside from keeping our kids well nourished, it's also important to have a regular visit to your kid’s pediatrician. Pediatricians give us credible advice on our kid's proper nourishment. So don't hesitate to bring your children to their pediatrician's clinic and don't forget to claim the Friso Four kit, which includes an exclusive Mercury Drug card.

Friso Four is available in selected Mercury Drug stores in Manila, Luzon, and Cebu. By purchasing Friso Four you to get a chance to win perks and prizes that will be published in friso.com.ph.

Now, look at this little boy, a strong kid inside and outside!

Our Little Boy's Cogo MagiBrix Blocks and more...

Hello dearies! It's weekend once again. I just finished emailing reports after I presented our report to the weekly managers meeting. Before anything else, here's me and Daddy I before we went to work one Saturday morning.

This photo is not taken today ha. So sorry I have so many pending posts in my draft folder. It's been a month since my life got so much busier. As in I have no time to blog. If you notice mga late posts na talaga naisshare ko. Hopefully, I'll get back to track the soonest.

Anyways, even if this is a late post, I think this is worth sharing naman. So here's our little boy with his Cogo MagiBrix Blocks.

We got this on sale at 200 pesos only, 250 blocks na, from Toy Kingdom. Parang it's 50% off.

You can create anything you want using these mini blocks.

See how busy my son was after he opened this Cogo box?

He even brought these to bed, hehe!

So while I am ironing our clothes, he's busy creating stuff naman.

Loom what he had made! A zoo ground!

Aside from his Cogo MagiBrix, he have these two stuff toys too.

Mickey is 4 years old already this December, while Raffy is his newest baby. He really loves stuffed toys and pillows just take a look back on his bed.

Since Christmas is coming so fast, I got him this Super Conversion Metal Car.

Aside from that, I am still planning this blue guitar from guitar center albuquerque.

Since Matthew loves to sing, this guitar will make him sing more.

That's all for now. Happy weekend!

Matthew Andrei's Second Pajama Party

MMA's annual pajama party is one of the events Matthew is looking forward to. It's like a post Halloween party. Last year, nalate kami ng uwi that's why hindi na namin sya naihatid sa school. (Read: Matthew Andrei's First Pajama Party)

So this year, we made sure we'll go home earlier so we can company him to school and of course took photos of him. Here's our little boy in his new pair of Spider Man pajamas, which he personally bought with me.

When we entered the room, nakalatag na ng beddings ang ibang kids. Naglatag na din sya agad-agad. Super excited eh!

Can't blame him naman because this is just once a year and it's super fun.

Not too obvious that the kids had so much fun noh? Anyways, got these photos from MMA's Facebook account.

They had a simple program with bone fire before they start the pajama party. Spot our little boy!

Sobrang natuwa ako sa mga photos na ito. Matthew is obviously one happy kid. So kulit!

Since pinilit namin makauwi ng maaga, heto resulta. Nagtake home ako ng trabaho, hehe!

That's what I did while waiting for Matthew to come home at 9 in the evening. For Prep to Grade 3 kasi until 9pm lang sila and for Grade 4-6 overnight na.

While waiting, syempre food trip muna with Daddy A.

Nang dumating sya super taas pa din ng energy. He even didn't forget that he still have a piece of cake inside the refrigerator. He ate half of it and told me to keep the other half for him to eat the next day. Sobrang gana nyang kumain I told you.

The next day, here he was!

He had so much fun talaga and so much pagod din. Anyways, it's another experience he will never forget.

Have you or kids been to pajama party?

Press Release: The Life and Times of a Mommy Blogger

An empowered woman shares the importance of forging the right partnerships in the internet age.

Ay super relate ako dito. Moms are superwoman especially to our kids. We must not get sick or get tired. But we are only humans and we need help at times. That's why choosing the right partners in our daily life is very important. Good thing I have my best partner in life, Daddy A.

Read through to discover more about finding the right partnership in this high technology age.

The famous poet John Donne was onto something when he wrote, “No man is an island”. We all need a helping hand sometimes to deal with the pressing demands of life. Whether at work or at home, effective partnerships comes in many shapes, faces, and forms.

A ray of sunshine. A radiant and cheerful Ruth Floresca has always believed that words are powerful and weaving them together creates an impact in people’s lives.
For Ruth Floresca, a professional writer, wife, and mother of four kids, “Being a mom to four sons is no small feat. It’s very much like working in an office where you need to ensure that things run smoothly all the time. I’m glad I have a partner in my husband Noy, whom I can trust and rely on for anything,” Ruth shares.

It wasn’t always this way. Ruth was used to being the independent woman, working as a professional writer for 20 years. But inasmuch as she enjoyed her work, she and her foremost partner decided that it would be best for her give up her full time job so she could pay attention to her youngest son, James, who has special needs.

But because Ruth was not ready to let go of her passion for writing, she turned to the internet to share her thoughts and passion for research. “Because I want James to have the best care in the world, I spend a lot of time finding the right partners for our everyday needs. Sanicare’s paraben-free Baby and Cleansing wipes, for example, gives me peace of mind because I am wary of chemicals like parabens which have been linked to the development of various diseases from cancer to other developmental conditions. I knew that there were other moms who were also looking for products they could trust for their family’s needs so I decided to write about my experience with the product on my blog.”

Sanicare Wipes come in two variants: the Sanicare Cleansing Wipes and the Sanicare Baby Wipes. These wipes are guaranteed soft, strong, and free from alcohol and parabens. Both brands are perfect for newborn babies and even adults. The soft and cloth-like texture helps with tough cleanups to ensure all-around protection from germs whether at home or outdoors.
As a newly minted blogger, Ruth was surprised that sharing her personal experiences as a working mom would resonate so effectively with an audience of like-minded and internet savvy mothers like her. Her blog mommywrites.blogspot.com has an average of 5,000 views per week. This represents a growing base of working women who have found that her writing speaks to their own experiences as mothers juggling their careers in this modern world.

“I didn’t expect to have so many partners in my daily life. I used to think being an empowered modern woman meant that you’d have to be efficient at doing things on your own. But experience has taught me that it’s more important to learn to find the right partners in life. I’m lucky to have found that in my husband, my blogging community, and in the brands I find and come to rely on which I share to help other mothers deal with their own everyday problems. It’s come full circle,” Ruth concludes.
